FBR issued tax notices to 746,000 non-filers
The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has embarked on a rigorous drive against non-filers of tax returns, issuing notices to over 746,000 individuals.
The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) issued tax notices as a result of a comprehensive verification process hinged after comprehensive reviews of banking records of the individuals.
The non-filers have been instructed to submit their tax returns promptly to avoid severe consequences.In case of non-compliant, the FBR to take action against non-filers which includes blockage of SIM cards, cutting-off electricity connections.
This move is a part of the FBR’s strategy to strengthen the country’s fiscal position through diligent tax collection.
Earlier, the Chairman FBR informed the Senate Standing Committee on Finance and Revenue that 3.2 million people have filed their tax returns and the tax department has a target of over 6 million of tax filers during this fiscal year.
Sources said that the FBR is planning to double tax return filers by end June 2024, which presently stand at 3.2 million.The FBR is working hard to meet the annual revenue collection target of Rs9.4 trillion for 2023-24.
