Imran Khan challenged ECP contempt case in Lahore High Court
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf supremo Imran Khan on Saturday challenged the ECP contempt case proceedings and its jail trial in Lahore High Court.
Imran Khan incarcerated at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail is scheduled to be indicted on December 13 in the Election Commission of Pakistan contempt case with ex-party leader Fawad Chaudhry.
The ECP also decided that the contempt case proceedings against the PTI would be carried out inside the jail’s premises.
Imran Khan’s petition was submitted by his lawyers Salman Akram Raja and Barrister Samir Khosa. Imran Khan argued in the petition that the ECP’s proceedings for contempt of the commission is illegall as ECP did not have the authority to try someone for contempt.
Imran’s application submitted in the Lahore High Court (LHC) states that the jail trial will impact the transparency of the trial and that conducting the trial in jail violates the Article 4 of the Constitution.
