New details emerge about Ismail Haniyeh’s martyrdom in Tehran
Khaled Qaddoumi, Hamas’ representative in Iran and Pakistan, said on Saturday that Ismail Haniyeh was likely martyred by a rocket or projectile fired at the building where he was staying
Qaddoumi cited the destruction of the ceiling and wall of the room as evidence, adding that technical teams are still working to determine the facts.
“The technical teams are tirelessly working to reach the facts… so it’s early to send out any assessment over the issue,” he said.
He recounted Haniyeh’s final moments, stating that he attended an official presidential dinner and then left to his residence, a high-ranking guest quarters on the fourth floor.
“His place of residence at that time was on the fourth floor,” he said.
Giving the further details, Qaddoumi said the building shook at 01:37 am (1007 GMT), as he left the room immediately and saw thick smoke; then he found that Abu al-Abd (Haniyeh) had been martyred.
It was shaking so hard that he thought it was an earthquake or a thunder, but it was neither, he said.
Khaled Qaddoumi dismissed a New York Times report claiming that an explosive device was hidden in Haniyeh’s room two months prior to the attack, calling it “irrational” and not based on scientific findings.
