12 cops martyred as bandits fire rockets at police vans in Rahim Yar Khan
12 police personnel were martyred in an attack by bandits on two police vans in Rahim Yar Khan’s Katcha area.
According to Punjab Police, bandits attacked two police vehicles in Katcha area.
Both the police mobiles were stuck in the rainwater. The robbers attacked the police with rocket launchers.
As result, 12 policemen were martyred and 6 injured while 5 were missing who have been rescued. Six of the injured cops are undergoing treatment at the hospital.
After the attack, the Rahim Yar Khan police have called a heavy force in the area.
According to the spokesperson of Punjab Police, two police vehicles were returning from their weekly duty in Katcha area, One vehicle broke down, which was suddenly attacked with rocket launchers. DPO Rahim Yar Khan reached the spot after the attack.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has paid tribute to the martyred policemen while condemning the attack by robbers on the police vehicles.
The interior minister prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured policemen.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz directed the provincial interior secretary to reach the Katcha area. The secretary interior will supervise the crackdown on the attackers in Katche area. IGP, Additional IG Special Branch, Additional IGC CTD will also visit the incident site.
The chief minister directed an effective operation to recover the missing policemen.
The Punjab IG has sought a report of the incident from RPO DG Khan.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have condemned the attack on the police convoy and expressed their condolences to the families of the martyred policemen.
