Adrian Newey joins Aston Martin
Renowned designer Adrian Newey will be joining Aston Martin following his departure from Red Bull in F1 2025.
The blockbuster move was confirmed Tuesday, following months of speculation. He joins British racing side on a new long-term deal.
Newey is considered as one of the greatest Formula 1 designers of all time with 25 titles to his name.
His departure from dominating Red Bull was confirmed in May’s Miami Grand Prix. He spent rest of his tenure in working on the RB17 hypercar.
Billed as a “milestone long-term partnership”, Aston Martin said the design guru’s arrival is “another statement of Aston Martin Aramco’s Formula One ambitions.
“Adrian has an unmatched record of success: he has led F1 teams to 25 Formula One World titles, establishing his position as the greatest technical mind in the sport’s history.”
The 65-year-old will join Aston Martin from March 1, 2025. His first major task would be to build a car sweeping new regulations including a new power unit formula.
He will have access to a brand-new factory, including a new wind tunnel and in-loop simulator, and be challenged with integrating a new works power unit supplier in the shape of Honda.
“I am thrilled to be joining the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team,” said Newey. “I have been hugely inspired and impressed by the passion and commitment that Lawrence brings to everything he is involved with.
“Together with great partners like Honda and Aramco, they have all the key pieces of infrastructure needed to make Aston Martin a world championship-winning team and I am very much looking forward to helping reach that goal.”
