Malaysia appoints Pakistan hockey great Sohail Abbas as coach
The Malaysian national men’s field hockey team has appointed Pakistani legend and drag-flick maestro Sohail Abbas as an assistant coach.
The announcement was made by Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) President Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal. The Pakistani great had signed on for one year, with an option to extend for another.
According to the MHC President, Sohail Abbas would not only be helping improve the team’s penalty corner effectiveness, but his immense experience would also allow for helping the Malaysian national side improve its overall performance.
While talking to the media at a press conference, the MHC President stated: “We need an expert, especially in improving the sharpness of penalty corners.
Renowned worldwide as the ‘King of the drag flick’, Sohail Abbas had a legendary 14-year career for Pakistan from 1998 to 2012, amassing a mammoth 348 goals in 311 appearances.
His first assignment as assistant coach will be at the Tun Abdul Razak Cup to be held in Johor Bahru.
