This Pakistani city has become the world’s most polluted one
Lahore, the cultural of Pakistan, has been ranked the most polluted city of the world today.
According to the latest IQAir data, the provincial capital of Punjab has crossed the 400 US AQI mark that means its air quality is hazardous and the worst possible.
The provincial authorities have rushed to tackle the worsening smog crisis.
Environmentalist Yasir Husain speaking to a local TV said that healthy air is below 50 US AQI that measures PM2.5 particles. Therefore, Lahore’s air is 80 times more polluted than a healthy level, he said.
The direction of air flows changed in winter. Currently, wind blowing from Pakistan to India. The agricultural waste burning, vehicle exhaust and power production cause the most air pollution.
As a result of slow winds in winter, the polluted air stays in the Lahore, combining fog and pollutants from burning into deadly smog.
