Israeli military uses Palestinians as human shields in Gaza
The Israeli military is facing severe criticism for using Palestinians as human shields in Gaza, specifically through a tactic known as the “mosquito protocol.”
This practice involves forcing Palestinians to enter potentially booby-trapped houses and tunnels to protect Israeli troops.
According to testimonies from an IDF soldier and five former Palestinian detainees, the Israeli military initially followed standard procedures but later resorted to using Palestinian prisoners, including minors, as human shields.
Palestinian detainees have shared harrowing experiences of being forced to wear military uniforms and perform reconnaissance tasks.
Mohammad Saad, 20, recounted being used as a human shield, while Mohammad Shbeir, 17, described being forced to enter potentially dangerous areas after Israeli forces killed his family members.
Human rights organizations, including Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and B’Tselem, have extensively documented Israel’s use of Palestinians as human shields in various conflicts.
These organizations have condemned the practice, citing the significant risk of harm to civilians.
