Hezbollah announces Sheikh Naim Qassem as its new chief
Hezbollah has announced election of Sheikh Naim Qassem as its new chief today.
The development came after the martyrdom of Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah in an Israeli strike on southern Beirut last month.
Hezbollah leadership, in a statement, said that in adherence to the principles and goals of the group, and under the established mechanism for electing the Secretary-General, Shura Council has agreed to elect His Eminence Sheikh Naim Qassem.”
The statement added: “We pledge to God Almighty and the spirit of our beloved martyr, His Eminence Sayyid Hassan Nasrallah, as well as to the martyrs, the fighters of the Islamic resistance, and our steadfast and loyal people, to work together to uphold Hezbollah’s principles and goals, keeping the flame of resistance alive and its banner raised until victory is achieved.”
Naim Qassem has served as the acting chief of Hezbollah since the martyrdom of its longtime leader Hassan Nasrallah.
Qassem has been recognized as a key figure within Hezbollah, He has frequently been the public face of the organization.
He attended rallies and ceremonies and gave interviews to international media, particularly after Hassan Nasrallah retreated from appearances due to assassination fears.
