Qatar suspends mediation efforts between Israel and Hamas
Qatar has temporarily suspended its efforts to mediate between Israel and the Palestinian resistance group Hamas.
Officials said Doha has suspended its role as a mediator in the ceasefire and hostage release talks between Israel and Hamas, the BBC reported.
The report states that Qatar has said that it will resume its work when Hamas and Israel show their willingness to negotiate.
The development comes as senior US officials reportedly said the Washington would no longer accept the presence of Hamas representatives in Qatar and accused the Palestinian group of rejecting new proposals to end the war in Gaza.
Qatar’s foreign ministry said it informed the parties to the talks 10 days ago that if no agreement was reached during the latest round of talks, the country would stop its efforts to mediate between Hamas and Israel.
It added Qatar will resume its mediation efforts once both sides demonstrate their willingness and seriousness to end the war.
It should be noted that the latest round of talks held in Doha in mid-October also failed as Hamas rejected a proposal for a short-term ceasefire.
