Tehran dismisses NYT report claiming Iran UN envoy met Musk
The foreign ministry spokesman of Iran has “categorically” denied The New York Times claiming that Tehran’s ambassador to the United Nations met with Tesla founder Elon Musk.
The report comes from state news agency IRNA, where spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei was reported as “categorically denying such a meeting”.
He was even surprised at the coverage of the American media in this regard.
The US Publication reported on Friday that Space X owner Elon Musk met earlier this week with Iran’s ambassador to the UN, Amir Saeid Iravani.
Musk is considered a close ally of newly elected US President Donald Trump.
The New York Times cited anonymous Iranian sources describing the encounter as “positive.”
However, Iranian newspapers, particularly those aligned with President Masoud Pezeshkian’s party, largely described the meeting in positive terms before Baghaei’s statement.
It is worth mentioning here that Iran and the United Stated cut diplomatic ties shortly after the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
Since then, both countries have communicated through the Swiss embassy in Tehran and the Sultanate of Oman.
