Rishabh Pant becomes the most expensive player in IPL history

Indian cricket team’s wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant has become the most expensive player in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The 2-day player bidding event for the IPL season 2025 started yesterday in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where the franchises bought the best players for their team for crores of rupees.

Earlier on Sunday, Punjab Kings bought Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer for INR 267.5 million, after which Shreyas became the most expensive player in the history of IPL. But this record was broken moments later when Lucknow Supergiants made the biggest bid in IPL history for Indian cricketer Rishabh Pant.

Previously, the title of the most expensive player in the history of IPL was held by Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc, who was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders for 24.75 crore Indian rupees last season.

In addition, the third most expensive player of IPL 2025 was Indian cricketer Venkatesh Iyer, who was added to the team by Kolkata Knight Riders for 23.75 crore Indian rupees.
