India unlikely play Champions Trophy in Pakistan: MEA
It is “unlikely” that India will travel to Pakistan for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy next year, said the Ministry of External Affairs.
The political relations between both countries haven’t been at there best in recent times, and due to the same reason the Indian Cricket Team haven’t travelled to Pakistan since 2008.
The arch-rivals last played a bilateral series in 2012-13 in India, since then, the two sides met only at the ICC events and in Asia Cup.
According to MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, “security concerns” is the reason behind India’s decision not to travel to Pakistan.
“The BCCI has issued a statement. They have said that there are security concerns there, and therefore, it is unlikely that the team will be going there,” Randhir Jaiswal said in a weekly press briefing.
India has firmly held its stance of not travelling to Pakistan.
The BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla has consistently emphasised that the board will strictly adhere to the directives issued by the Indian government.
