PMSA rescue nine Indian sailors from sinking ship
The Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) has successfully rescued nine Indian crew members from a sinking cargo ship.
The ship ‘Tajdare Haram,’ approximately 120 nautical miles south of Karachi, sent a distress signal around 11 am on December 26.
The crew abandoned ship and sought refuge in life rafts before being rescued by the PMSA.
Upon receiving information about the accident from the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Mumbai, the Pakistani agency launched a coordinated rescue operation.
“The vessel was reported to have sunk in the exclusive economic zone of Pakistan, with its 12 crew members stranded on a life raft in distress,” PMSA said in a statement.
The survivors were located by PMSA aircraft, subsequently, nearby commercial vessels and PMSA ships were dispatched to the scene.
The PMSA also facilitated the arrival of an Indian Coast Guard vessel operating in nearby Indian waters to assist in the rescue and recovery efforts.
According to the statement, this is the second successful operation by PMSA in the last three weeks.
