New Zealand ushers in New Year 2025 with spectacular fireworks

31 December, 2024 19:15

New Zealand has become the first country in the world to celebrate New Year’s Eve with a spectacular fireworks display at Auckland Sky Tower.

On the other hand, people across the globe are preparing to say goodbye to 2024 and welcome 2025 with a variety of celebrations.

The island nation of Kiribati in Oceania was the first country in the world to enter 2025 while the last nations to welcome 2025 will be the uninhabited islands of Baker and Howland when it will already be 2 January.

Bad weather conditions, in the UK, have prompted the cancellation of some ceremonies, including Edinburgh’s Hogmanay celebrations.

Outdoor events planned for the New Year celebrations, including the street party and fireworks display, have had to be scrapped, the organisers said.

London’s City Hall, meanwhile, is monitoring the weather forecast as the tickets sold out for the capital’s fireworks display. Gusts of wind are likely to reach up to 41mph in the approach to midnight.
