South Africa complete 2-0 Test series victory over Pakistan
South Africa wrapped up a 10-wicket win in the second Test at Newlands on Monday, securing a 2-0 series victory over Pakistan.
Despite a brave effort from Pakistan, including a fighting 145 from captain Shan Masood, the visitors fell short as South Africa comfortably chased down 58 runs to win the match on the fourth day.
Pakistan had been forced to follow on after trailing by 421 runs following South Africa’s massive first innings score of 615.
In response, Pakistan battled to 478 all out, thanks to Masood’s resistance and contributions from Mohammad Rizwan (31*) and Salman Agha (31*).
However, their efforts weren’t enough to prevent South Africa from completing the victory.
Earlier in the day, Pakistan had been fighting at 398 for five, still trailing by 23 runs, but their chances were slim with Saim Ayub unavailable after suffering an ankle injury on the first day.
The morning session saw South Africa claim two wickets, including that of Khurram Shahzad for 18 and Kamran Ghulam for 28. The introduction of the new ball after lunch led to further breakthroughs, including the key dismissal of Masood by Kwena Maphaka.
South Africa’s first innings dominance, powered by centuries from Ryan Rickelton (259), Temba Bavuma (106), and Kyle Verreynne (100), had set the stage for their eventual win.
Pakistan’s resistance, despite being the highest-ever follow-on score by a visiting team in South Africa, was not enough to stop the hosts from sealing the series 2-0.
