Lawyer says global parliamentary group to observe Imran Khan trials
A global parliamentary body, Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), will send its representative to observe the trials against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder Imran Khan, his lawyer said on Thursday.
Khalid Yousuf Chaudhry told media that he had discussed the PTI founder’s cases with an official of the (IPU) after which it decided to send its trial observer.
The lawyer further said that the IPU representative was briefed on the judicial proceedings in the £190 million case and also informed about the Toshakhana cases.
Khalid Yousuf Chaudhry said that he provided the IPU representative with details concerning the penalties in the Toshakhana cases. The IPU official was also informed about the legal and constitutional flaws and the violation of the right to a fair trial.”
The IPU officials was also briefed on the May 9 and the GHQ cases, he said and added that in November 2023, an IPU trial observer was denied permission to visit Adiala Jail.
People from outside Pakistan has been talking about Imran Khan’s imprisonment or cases. Earlier, parliamentarians from the UK and the US have also sought the PTI founder’s release.
