143-year-old snowfall record broken in US’s Alabama state

Snow storm has caused widespread destruction in 30 US states including Louisiana, Georgia, Alabama, Florida, Mississippi.

According to the media reports, emergency was imposed in 6 states during the snowfall. The heaviest snowfall occurred in Alabama, where a 143-year-old record was broken.

More than 3,200 flights have been canceled, schools closed and business activities halted due to the blizzard and strong winds.

Four people died in different incidents while several people had to be admitted to the hospital due to cold, flu and fever. Thousands of people lost electricity.

The meteorological department said that the snowfall will continue for another three days.

Citizens have been instructed not to step out of their homes unnecessarily.

Apart from America, the UK and Canada have also been covered by snow. The number of deaths in these three countries due to snowfall in one month is more than 50.
