OpenAI launches ‘deep research’ tool

OpenAI introduced a new tool called “Deep Research” on Monday, aiming to enhance the efficiency of research tasks.
The tool, which leverages ChatGPT’s capabilities, is designed to conduct independent research by analysing and synthesizing data from hundreds of online sources to generate comprehensive reports similar to those created by research analysts.
OpenAI stated that the tool can accomplish in minutes what would typically take hours for a human to complete.
The announcement came ahead of a series of high-profile meetings in Tokyo, where OpenAI CEO Sam Altman met with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba and SoftBank Group’s Masayoshi Son.
The meetings focus on strengthening Japan’s AI infrastructure, with SoftBank and OpenAI partnering on initiatives aimed at advancing artificial intelligence.
In the same announcement, Altman revealed plans to develop “a new kind of hardware” in collaboration with Jony Ive, Apple’s former chief design officer.
However, Altman noted that prototypes for this hardware would take several years to materialise.
