Armed forces soldiers anguished due to Pervez Musharraf death sentence judgment that ignored due legal process, according to ISPR.

Specially, Inter-Services Public Relations today (Tuesday) issued a statement in reaction to special court verdict against ex-COAS.

“The decision given by the Special Court about Pervez Musharraf has been received with lot of pain and anguish by rank and file of Pakistan Armed Forces,” it said.

According to a statement, an ex-army Chief, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee and President of Pakistan, who has served the country for over forty-years, fought wars for the defence of the country, can surely never be a traitor.

The statement further said due legal process seems to have been ignored.

Moreover, it also mentioned constitution of special court, denial of fundamental right of self-defence, undertaking individual specific proceedings and concluding the case in haste (as lack of due process).

It further said that armed forces of Pakistan that justice will be dispensed in line with Constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

Backgrounder

Special Court Islamabad has awarded death sentence to former President Pervez Musharraf in a high treason case.

A three member court headed by Peshawar High Court Chief Justice Waqar Ahmad Seth announced the verdict Tuesday.  The court had reserved judgment in the case on the 19th of last month.

The high treason trial of the former military dictator for imposing the state of emergency on Nov 3, 2007, had been pending since December 2013.

Musharraf imposed a state of emergency. Besides, he also placed several key judges under house arrest in Islamabad and elsewhere in Pakistan.

Musharraf came to power after ousting then-Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in a 1999 bloodless coup.
