Karachi building collapse death toll rises to 14 today.
Earlier, initial reports had it the building collapse left 3 dead and 24 injured in Karachi Golimar area today (Thursday).
Karachi building collapse death toll
At least 14 people died when a five-storey residential building in Karachi’s Gulbahar area — formerly known as Golimar — collapsed.
The Police Surgeon Dr Qarar Abbasi said the bodies of 14 victims had been brought to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
At least 17 injured were also shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
Rescue teams had rushed to the spot and began rescuing those stuck under the debris.
Teams of Police and Rangers also reached Golimar Number 2 area and cordoned off the area.
According to rescue sources, they took three bodies out of building’s debris so far.
However, several people remain entrapped till this report.
The rescue teams have shifted the 25 injured to nearby hospitals.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Army is also taking part in the rescue activities.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and Governor Imran Ismail took notice of the incident.
They expressed grief over the loss of precious lives.
The CM Murad has also sought a report from Commissioner Karachi.
Inspector General of Police Mushtaq Mahar has directed SSP Central Mohammad Arif Aslam Rao to head the rescue operation in the area.
Meanwhile, balcony of a building in Karachi’s Federal B area also caved in.
Resultantly, a man died while 10 others including three children sustained injuries.
