WATCH: PIA air hostess arrested for smuggling foreign currency at Lahore airport
LAHORE: Customs officials in collaboration with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) immigration team arrested PIA air hostess for smuggling a large amount of currency on a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight from Lahore to Jeddah.
The air hostess was found hiding US dollars and Saudi riyals in her socks, valued at millions in Pakistani rupees.
Deputy Collector Customs Raja Bilal revealed that $37,318 and 40,000 Saudi riyals were recovered from the PIA air hostess.
A case has been registered against her, and she has been handed over to an investigation team.
The government, following directives from the prime minister and FBR chairman, is committed to stopping currency smuggling, said Raja Bila.
PIA senior officials have been informed about the incident, which is the second such case involving a PIA staff member in recent months.
In March, a PIA female flight attendant was detained at Toronto airport after multiple passports were found in her possession on a Canada-bound flight.
