US terms Maryam Nawaz’s election as CM a milestone

The US has declared Maryam Nawaz’s election as chief minister as a milestone.

US State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller said, in a press briefing, that the election of Maryam Nawaz as the chief minister is a milestone in Pakistani politics.

The spokesperson said that Pakistan has a long-standing partnership, and the Washington values ​​the alliance with Islamabad.

Matthew Miller said that a prosperous and democratic Pakistan is important to the interests of the United States and Pakistan, and will continue to focus on advancing common interests with Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and his government.

He further said that he is looking forward to cooperating with Pakistan to include women in the political stream of the country.

Earlier, the US has once again rejected the accusations levelled by the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.

US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said in a press briefing that all I can do is stand here and tell the truth.

He further said that the charges of the PTI founder, who is currently imprisoned, are unfounded and baseless.

Matthew Miller said that they want to see the right to freedom of expression and free press around the world, including Pakistan.

Responding to the Pakistan-Iran Gas Pipeline project, the spokesman said that talks are ongoing with the government of Pakistan on the said project. We cannot comment on the diplomatic talks with Pakistan, he added.
