47,000 wheat bags go missing in Pakistan

About 47,000 wheat bags have gone missing from the government’s warehouse in Pakistan’s Khairpur district.

As per details, the wheat bags procured by the Sindh government worth Rs800 million had gone missing from the godown. The Sindh Food Department, taking action on the matter, has suspended three food officials, including district food controller Khairpur, food supervisor and food inspector.

Wheat stocked at the government warehouses in Sindh has not vanished for the first time as in the past several such cases had been reported. Thousands of metric tons of wheat had vanished in 2022 from the provincial government’s warehouses in Naushehro Feroze.

Earlier on March 20, the Sindh cabinet had decided to set the wheat procurement target at 900,000 tonnes. The Cabinet meeting was attended by provincial ministers –, Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho, Sharjeel Memon, Nasir Shah, Sardar Shah, , Jam Khan Shoro, Zia Lanjar, Mohammad Bux Mahar, Saeed Ghani, Haji Ali Hassan Zardari, Zulfiqar Shah, Advisors- Babal Khan Bahyo, Ehsan Mazari, Najmi Alam, Advisors, new Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah, Advocate General, Prosecutor General, and others.
