While talking to newsmen, he reaffirmed its stance on the lifting of lockdown measures aimed at protecting the public against the spread of coronavirus.

He said it has repeatedly prioritized the ramping up of production and distribution of COVID-19 tests.

Meanwhile, confirmed worldwide death toll from the novel coronavirus pandemic has risen to 171,240.

193 countries and territories have confirmed over 2,496,660 declared cases while 655,888 are now considered recovered.

On the other hand, India recorded over 1,553 cases as its biggest single-day spike in coronavirus cases today, raising the total 17,000.

At least 543 people have died from COVID-19.

The government eased lockdown yesterday to allow some manufacturing and agricultural activity to resume.
