White House unfollows Indian PM Modi and President Kovind on Twitter evoking reaction on social media in India.

The White House has unfollowed also unfollowed the Twitter handle of Indian President Ram Nath Kovind, the Prime Minister’s office and the Indian embassy in the United States.

According to Radio Pakistan, the surprise move indicates a possible souring of ties between the US and Indian leaders.

Three weeks ago, Modi had the ‘honour’ of being the only world leader followed by Washington’s official handle.

Meanwhile, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has urged Indian Ministry of External Affairs to take note.

However, Press Trust of India (PTI) is trying to understate it though report based on unnamed official’s quotes.

The PTI report had it ma senior administration official told PTI on the condition of anonymity.

Unidentified US official said that the White House Twitter account normally follows senior US government Twitter accounts, and others as appropriate.

“For example, during the time of a presidential visit, the account typically follows for a short time, the host country’s officials to retweet their messages in support of the visit.”

The official was responding to a question on the reasons for the White House ‘following’ and then ‘unfollowing’ the Twitter handles of President Kovind, Prime Minister Modi, the PMO and the other Indian officials.
