Pakistani pilgrims stuck in Iraq after passports go missing

30 August, 2024 18:43

BAGHDAD: Hundreds of Pakistani pilgrims, who went to Iraq for annual Arbaeen ritual, have been stranded in Iraq after the local administration reportedly lost their passports.

Over 50 Pakistani pilgrims have been stuck at Iraq’s Baghdad airport from 4am as the administration failed to return their passports.

The Pakistani pilgrims said that they were denied to board flight after Iraqi immigration staff failed to hand over their passports timely due to negligence.

The Pakistani citizens sought the help of the Pakistani government for their return to their homeland.

This incident follows a recent clarification by Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, Chaudhry Salik, who refuted claims that 50,000 Pakistani citizens had gone missing in Iraq.
