New electricity rate for consumers using up to 200 units from October

25 September, 2024 20:55

Pakistan government’s relief on power tariffs for consumers using up to 200 units per month is set to conclude on September 30.

Recent relief, which has been in effect for the past three months, was designed to protect consumers from rising costs.

Starting October 1, those using up to 200 units monthly will face a notable increase in their electricity bills. Reports indicate that the base tariff for this category will surge by Rs 7.12 per unit.

This change comes after the government’s decision in July 2024 to raise electricity tariffs by the same amount.

At that time, the government provided a Rs 50 billion subsidy to exempt consumers from the hike temporarily for three months.

The new tariff structure reveals significant hikes for both protected and non-protected consumers.

For non-protected consumers using between 1 and 100 units, the tariff will see an increase of Rs 7.11, bringing the new rate to Rs 23.59 per unit. Similarly, those consuming between 101 and 200 units will experience a rise of Rs 7.12, leading to a new rate of Rs 30.07 per unit.

Protected consumers, who benefit from limited tariff increases, will also see their rates rise. For those using between 1 and 100 units, the tariff will increase by Rs 3.95, resulting in a new rate of Rs 11.69 per unit.

Meanwhile, consumers using between 101 and 200 units will face a Rs 4.10 increase, resulting in a new tariff of Rs 14.16 per unit.
