Khalid Mahmood Soomro murderers get life sentence

An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Sukkur on Monday sentenced six accused involved in Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) leader Dr Khalid Mahmood Soomro murder to life imprisonment.

ATC Sukkur Judge Abdul Rehman Qazi in his brief verdict of the murder case of Khalid Mahmood Soomro also imposed heavy fines on all six accused.

The accused are Hanif Bhutto, Sarang Totani, Mushtaq Mehar, Darya Khan Jamali, Lutf Jamali and Altaf Jamali.

They were sentenced to life imprisonment for murder and terrorism and seven years in prison for possession of weapons.

JUIF leader Khalid Mahmood Soomro was shot dead in Sukkur on November 29, 2014.

The court conducted more than 450 hearings in the case, a total of 17 witnesses appeared in the case.

On December 13, a special ATC Sukkur court had reserved the verdict in the Khalid Soomro murder case.

Strict security measures were taken in the special court set up in Central Jail Sukkur on the occasion of the safe verdict of the case.

On the court’s decision, JUIF leader and the victim’s brother Rashid Mahmood Soomro said that the accused should have been sentenced to death instead of life imprisonment, so they will go to the High Court against the decision.
