Pakistan Railways enhances trains security

15 April, 2025 12:12

Pakistan Railways has implemented enhanced security measures for trains in response to the recent terrorist attack on the Jaffar Express. In a briefing to the National Assembly, it was revealed that the Frontier Corps (FC) and Railway Police will be responsible for providing security for these trains.

As part of the upgraded measures, 35 officers, armed with modern weapons, have been deployed to the Jaffar Express and Bolan Mail to ensure the safety of passengers and prevent potential threats.

Furthermore, Pakistan Railways has announced two major security projects worth PKR 8 billion. One of these projects will focus on integrating an advanced security system, with PKR 3.1 billion allocated for its implementation. This project is also being considered for inclusion in the Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) for the 2025-2026 fiscal year.

The move follows a terrorist attack on the Jaffar Express in Balochistan, where security forces responded swiftly, killing three terrorists. In the attack, militants detonated a bomb on the railway track, causing the train to stop in the Bolan Pass area.

Around 400 passengers, including women and children, were taken hostage by the terrorists, who forced the train to a halt in a tunnel. Security forces successfully rescued 190 hostages and escorted them to Quetta under tight security.

Following the incident, an emergency was declared in all hospitals in Sibbi. This attack follows a similar incident in November 2024, when an explosion at Quetta railway station resulted in 26 deaths and over 40 injuries, including women and children.
