Islamabad – A tragic incident has sent shockwaves across Pakistan as 17-year-old TikTok star Sana Yousuf was shot dead in her home on Sunday, just a day after celebrating her birthday. The murder, allegedly carried out by a man identified as Umar Hayat aka Kaka, has reignited national conversations on violence against women and online harassment.

Who Was Sana Yousuf?

Sana Yousuf was born on June 2, 2008, in northwestern Pakistan, originally from the Chitral region of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). She grew up in a socially aware and engaged family. Her father is a public servant, while her mother, Farzana Yousuf, is a known local activist.

Sana had built a massive following on TikTok, Instagram, and other platforms, thanks to her lifestyle videos that often featured inspirational and educational content. She quickly became a recognizable face in Pakistan’s online space and earned praise for her digital influence at such a young age.

What Happened?

On Sunday, June 2, 2025, while at home in Islamabad with her aunt, Sana was allegedly approached by Umar Hayat, a 22-year-old from Faisalabad. According to police sources, Umar had been proposing to Sana repeatedly online, but she refused all his advances.

On the day of the attack, Umar is said to have tried contacting Sana in person but was unsuccessful. Later, he allegedly entered her home with a pistol. Witnesses say Sana tried to calm him down, even offering him water and warning that security cameras were recording everything.

Tragically, her efforts were in vain. Sana was shot twice in the chest. She was rushed to the hospital, but doctors pronounced her dead on arrival.

At the time of the shooting:

  • Her mother was out shopping

  • Her father was at work

  • Her younger brother was in Chitral

Police Investigation

A First Information Report (FIR) was registered at Sumbal Police Station under Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).

CCTV footage shows the suspect calmly texting on his phone and walking away after the murder. He reportedly fled via the motorway, but was arrested shortly after and is now in police custody.

The incident has drawn massive attention on social media. Thousands of users have expressed their sorrow and anger, demanding:

  • Stricter laws to protect influencers and content creators
