PM Shehbaz Sharif Reaffirms Support for Kashmiris on Accession Day 2025

19 July, 2025 11:53

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that a peaceful resolution of the Kashmir issue through the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions is the only way to guarantee the rights of the Kashmiri people and ensure peace in the region.

In a special message released on Kashmir Accession Day, the prime minister paid tribute to the brave people of Jammu and Kashmir. He reaffirmed that the government and people of Pakistan will continue to provide diplomatic, political, and moral support to their Kashmiri brothers and sisters.

He recalled that Kashmir Accession Day, marked every year on July 19, commemorates the historical event in 1947 when the All Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference held a session in Srinagar. During this meeting, the Kashmiri leadership passed a resolution in favor of accession to Pakistan.

PM Shehbaz Sharif said the decision taken by the people of Kashmir back then was based on their religious, cultural, and political bonds with Pakistan.

He highlighted that the Kashmiris’ sacrifices, which began in 1947, are continuing even today. Despite facing brutality at the hands of over one million Indian forces, the Kashmiri spirit for freedom has only grown stronger.

โ€œToday, the third generation of Kashmiris is continuing the struggle with the same determination and courage shown by their ancestors,โ€ he added.

The prime minister said that the decades-long freedom movement of the Kashmiris against Indian occupation proves their patriotism and their genuine desire for self-determination.

He called on the international community to recognize the just demand of the Kashmiri people and to support the resolution of the issue through peaceful means as outlined in the UN resolutions.
