Who Is Neurosurgeon Greg Malham? The Kiwi Doctor Terminated Over Toxic, Sexist Conduct PC: Greg Malham's website
Greg Malham is a well-known brain and spine surgeon from New Zealand. He worked at top hospitals in Melbourne, Australia. For many years, he was praised for his skills and advanced methods in spinal surgery. But now, he is facing serious accusations of bullying, sexual harassment, and bad behavior at work.
On July 23, 2025, Warringal Private Hospital in Melbourne ended Greg Malham’s rights to treat patients. This came after a television investigation by ABC’s Four Corners. The report shared the voices of nurses and staff who said they were mistreated by Malham while working with him. Some even said they were touched inappropriately or yelled at in the operating room.
Earlier this year, in April 2025, Malham also resigned from another hospital, Epworth, after similar complaints came forward. Both hospitals have now cut ties with him and are reviewing how the issue was handled.
Who Is Greg Malham?
Malham trained in New Zealand and the United Kingdom before moving to Australia. He became known for using new technology in spine surgery. He often spoke at medical events and wrote papers. Many younger doctors looked up to him. But now, his career is in danger because of these allegations.
One of the most heartbreaking parts of this story is linked to a nurse named Laura Heffernan. In 2014, she took her own life after having a personal relationship with Malham. In her note, she said she felt used and heartbroken. Her family said she trusted him, but he betrayed that trust. Her death shocked many and raised questions about how such behavior is allowed to go on for so long.
Other nurses also spoke out. One said Malham touched female staff in a way that made them uncomfortable. Another said she was screamed at during a surgery, making her cry in front of other staff. Many said they were afraid to complain because Malham was powerful and had connections in the medical field.
Both hospitals have now admitted that more could have been done earlier. The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons also gave a strong statement. They said bullying and abuse should not be accepted in any hospital. Medical regulators may now take action against Malham. He is still registered as a doctor, but that could change soon depending on the investigation.
This story has caused a big reaction in Australia. It is being shared widely on social media and has started important conversations about workplace safety, power abuse, and the need for stronger reporting systems in hospitals.
