Who is Miyu Yamashita’s Caddie? All about John Bennett

01 August, 2025 20:50

Miyu Yamashita, a young talent from Japan, is quickly making her mark in professional golf. Since turning pro in 2020, she has achieved an impressive 13 victories on the LPGA of Japan Tour by the end of 2024.

Her most recent win came at the Daio Paper Elleair Ladies Open. Shortly after, she earned her LPGA Tour card through the tough Q-Series, a major step for any professional golfer.

Teaming Up with John Bennett

To support her transition, Yamashita hired John Bennett, a veteran caddie from New Zealand, known for his decades of experience. Bennett’s career began when his friend David Smail invited him to caddie. Together, they enjoyed eight successful years, winning seven titles including the 2001 New Zealand Open.

In 2008, Bennett began working with Sakura Yokomine, another rising Japanese golfer. Their partnership lasted six years and brought several tour wins. Although Yokomine later moved to the LPGA Tour, Bennett stayed in Japan and caddied for Ayaka Matsumori, guiding her to victory at the 2016 Fujitsu Ladies.

A Promising LPGA Tour Start

Now, Bennett is caddying for Yamashita as she takes on her rookie season in the LPGA Tour. Their teamwork is already showing results — Yamashita has placed in the top 10 several times in the early part of the season.

She was even leading by three shots after the second round of the AIG Women’s Open, the final Major of the year, with Bennett by her side. With this strong start, Yamashita looks set for a bright future.
