Who is Taylor Adam Lee? US soldier accused of spying for Russia

A 22-year-old US Army soldier, Taylor Adam Lee, has been arrested for allegedly trying to give secret military information to Russia, the US Department of Justice said.

Lee was stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas, and had top-secret clearance. Authorities say he believed he was talking to someone from Russia’s Ministry of Defence and wanted to exchange US secrets in return for Russian citizenship.

What Did He Do?

The case began in May 2025, when Lee reportedly started sending messages to his supposed Russian contact. He said he was unhappy with the US government and even offered to help Russia in any way if he moved there.

According to officials, he tried to give away important technical information about US battle tanks, especially the M1A2 Abrams, as well as other army vehicles and battle strategies. At one point, Lee allegedly delivered a real tank part to a storage unit and messaged: “Mission accomplished.”

Serious Charges

Lee was arrested in El Paso, Texas, on Wednesday and now faces serious charges for trying to share national defense information and exporting military data without permission.

Officials Respond

FBI and Army leaders called the incident a strong reminder of the danger of insider threats. They said this arrest sends a clear message to anyone planning to betray the country.

“This is a warning to anyone thinking about helping enemies of the US,” said an FBI official.

Growing Espionage Cases

Lee’s arrest adds to a growing number of spy cases in the US military. In recent years, other service members and former military staff have been caught leaking sensitive information — sometimes even through dating apps or social media.

Officials say they are staying alert and will continue to catch and punish anyone who breaks their oath to protect the country.
