Who is Sanjay Sanjeev Kumar? RAW Network Busted in Karachi

23 August, 2025 13:48

Pakistan’s Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) announced a major breakthrough after arresting four suspects linked to India’s Research and Analysis Wing (RAW). Officials claim the men were part of a terrorist network run by Sanjay Sanjeev Kumar, a RAW handler allegedly operating from a Gulf state.

The CTD said the arrests exposed a well-organized network that had safe houses, financial channels, and local recruits inside Pakistan. Six suspects have been taken into custody so far.

The Man Behind the Network: Sanjay Sanjeev Kumar

According to CTD officials, Sanjay Sanjeev Kumar, also known by the alias “Fouji”, is the key handler of the Karachi cell. He is believed to be based in a Gulf country and has been accused of recruiting and directing Pakistani nationals for targeted killings.

Investigators say Kumar stayed in constant touch with the suspects and planned the killing of Abdur Rehman, a barber from Badin, on May 18, 2025.

Funds for the operation were allegedly sent by Kumar through bank transfers and informal channels to his associate named Salman, who later fled to Nepal after the attack.

How the Operation Was Carried Out

  • CTD chief Azad Khan said the suspects stayed in a hotel in Hyderabad for five days.

  • They then moved to Matli, Badin, where they carried out surveillance of their target on May 13.

  • On May 18, Abdur Rehman was shot dead outside his shop.

The killers escaped, but CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts placed at least three of them at the crime scene.

The Arrests and Evidence

The suspects arrested so far include:

  • Amir Asghar

  • Sajad

  • Obaid

  • Shakeel

  • Arslan

  • Talha Umair

From their possession, authorities recovered:

  • A 9mm pistol

  • A 30-bore pistol

  • Mobile phones

  • A motorcycle

CTD officials said bank records confirmed terror financing linked directly to Sanjay Kumar.

Victim’s Profile

The slain man, Abdur Rehman, was 45 years old and known in his community for welfare work. Investigators believe he was targeted to spread fear and instability in the region.

RAW’s Alleged Role

Officials accused RAW of using a separatist group as a proxy to carry out the killing. They described the incident as “state-sponsored terrorism.”

“RAW’s involvement has been fully established. The suspects admitted they were working for the Indian agency. Their travel history is also in our possession,” said Azad Khan.

What’s Next?

The CTD has registered a case of terror financing and expects more arrests as investigations continue. Officials say they will raise the matter at international forums as further proof of RAW’s activities in Pakistan.
