Who is Amanda Staveley and is she planning a Tottenham takeover?

British business executive Amanda Staveley has once again made headlines in the football world. Reports linked her with an attempt to buy Tottenham Hotspur, although the club has strongly denied being for sale.

Staveley is well known for playing a big role in the Saudi Public Investment Fund’s takeover of Newcastle United in 2021. She and her husband, Mehrdad Ghodoussi, were minority shareholders at Newcastle until they sold their 6% stake and left the club in July 2024.

Tottenham Denies Sale Rumors

Over the weekend, Tottenham’s board confirmed they had received approaches from two different groups, one of them being Staveley’s company PCP International Finance Limited. But the club said they “unequivocally rejected” the offers.

The next day, PCP also released a statement saying it did not intend to purchase Spurs, calming speculation.

Staveley’s Football Background

Amanda Staveley is no stranger to Premier League deals. Before Newcastle, she was involved in Sheikh Mansour’s takeover of Manchester City in 2008 and also played a part in a big investment in Barclays Bank that same year.

At Newcastle, she helped bring in Eddie Howe as head coach and was central in signing players like Bruno Guimaraes, Anthony Gordon, and Tino Livramento. Her exit last year surprised many fans, as she had been one of the key faces of Newcastle’s revival.

Determined to Return to Football

Those close to Staveley say she rarely gives up. It took her four years to finally complete the Newcastle deal, even after it fell apart at one stage. Her interest in Spurs shows she and her husband still want to return to the top level of football ownership.

Even if Tottenham does not change hands, her determination suggests she will continue to look for “great opportunities” in the Premier League.
