Punjab introduces breakthrough cancer treatment after CM Maryam’s China visit

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has inaugurated the first state-of-the-art co-ablation cancer treatment center at Lahore’s Mayo Hospital, a facility that is not yet available in India.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by the health secretary, doctors, and other officials. Maryam Nawaz also shared details on social media platform X, saying: “During my visit to Hygea Medical Equipment Company in China, a cutting-edge technology for treating malignant tumours caught my attention.”

This innovative method works by injecting liquid nitrogen to freeze tumors at -180°C, followed by controlled thawing and heating up to 80°C. This process destroys cancerous cells without harming healthy tissue.

What makes the technology special is that it is a 60-minute, walk-in walk-out, minimally invasive procedure. It treats certain types of cancer without surgery, chemotherapy, or radiation. Maryam Nawaz said she decided to bring this advancement after her visit to China.

She added: “I am proud to share that Alhamdolillah, the first machine has been successfully installed at a newly established unit in Mayo Hospital. Our team of doctors has undergone specialized training in China, ensuring that this technology is applied with the highest level of expertise.”

The chief minister revealed that the first five patients treated with this method are now cancer-free. She further said: “No other country in the region has access to this technology yet, making Punjab a true trailblazer in adopting breakthrough cancer treatment.”

After the inauguration, Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari responded to critics by saying the first official outcome of Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s recent visit to China has been unveiled, proving the value of her international outreach.

Earlier, the Chief Minister had faced criticism from some quarters who questioned the purpose of her foreign visits. However, this new initiative, directly linked to her meetings in China, is now being seen as a major policy success.
