Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved a new Smart Waste Management initiative to promote cleanliness and eco-friendly practices in schools across the province.
In the first phase, the project will be rolled out in public and private educational institutions, where five colored bins will be placed for proper waste segregation.
The deadline for bin installation is September 30, and inspections will begin on October 1. Schools that fail to comply will face fines.
Five-Color Bin System Announced
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has issued guidelines for the color-coded bins:
Yellow bin – Paper and cardboard
Green bin – Bottles, glass, and laboratory waste
Grey bin – Food waste, fruit peels, leaves, and vegetables
Red bin – Metal waste
Orange bin – Plastic waste
The Local Government and Community Development Department will distribute the bins, while the EPA will enforce the rules and conduct inspections.
