House Speaker Mike Johnson is trending across social media platforms after a TikToker alleged that he is active on Grindr. The individual behind the claim has stated that all supposed evidence has been handed over to a trusted journalist and attorneys, and cannot be disclosed publicly as it is now part of a legal case.

Johnson has been married to his wife, Kelly Johnson, since 1999. Together, they have four children — Hannah, Abigail, Jack, and Will. They also adopted Michael Tirrell James.

According to a New York Times report dated November 12, 2023, the couple first met at a mutual friend’s wedding, where Kelly caught Johnson’s attention in a red dress. After dating, they became engaged six months later. Kelly, who attended Louisiana Tech University, worked as a teacher before moving into counseling. She is now the founder and president of Onward Christian Counseling Services in Louisiana. She also serves as director and advisor of the Louisiana Right to Life organization, a nonprofit advocating for the pro-life movement, according to People Magazine.

Their eldest daughter, Hannah, is pursuing a law degree at Louisiana State University Law School, while Abigail is enrolled at Louisiana Tech University, as reported by Yahoo News on January 22, 2025. Their son Jack joined the United States Naval Academy with the Class of 2028, and their youngest, Will, is still in school. Meanwhile, the New York Post reported in 2023 that their adopted son, Michael Tirrell James, works as a certified nurse assistant in California.

The Johnsons first took James in during 1996 when he was a teenager. By 1999, they had become his legal guardians after he faced homelessness. When the family relocated in 2002, James, then legally an adult, stayed behind. He was later arrested multiple times on various charges, including drug possession. However, James eventually rebuilt his life and publicly expressed gratitude to the Johnson family for supporting him in his youth.

Mike and Kelly Johnson are also among couples who chose a covenant marriage — a stricter form of marital union available only in Louisiana, Arkansas, and Arizona. Under covenant marriage laws, couples must undergo counseling before separating, and divorce grounds are significantly restricted.

The couple appeared on Good Morning America in 2001 to discuss their decision. Kelly said her marriage had given her “peace and security” after past difficult relationships. In a 2005 interview with ABC, Mike explained that his parents’ divorce had been traumatic for him, shaping his commitment to fidelity and covenant marriage. Kelly added that Johnson’s proposal for a covenant marriage reassured her of his seriousness about commitment. She also remarked that refusal of such a union would be a “big red flag” for her.
