Who Is Mark Sanchez’s Wife? Getting to Know Chad Powers Star Perry Mattfeld

Former NFL quarterback and current Fox Sports analyst Mark Sanchez has been married to actress Perry Mattfeld since May 2023.

The couple first met in 2017 through mutual friend Scotty McKnight, a former New York Jets player who later officiated their wedding. Sanchez and Mattfeld got engaged in 2022 and tied the knot the following year.

“Emotional is a massive understatement,” Sanchez told PEOPLE after the ceremony. “It all hit me at once like a mack truck and after that, I couldn’t turn off the tears! Tears of joy, love and gratitude for getting such an incredible life partner.”

Sanchez, who works as an NFL color analyst for Fox and Fox Sports 1, was recently arrested and charged with a felony following a violent altercation with a truck driver in Indianapolis on Oct. 4. He was arrested while being treated for stab wounds, which the driver alleged were inflicted in self-defense.

Here’s everything to know about his wife, Perry Mattfeld.

Raised in California

Mattfeld was born and raised in Long Beach, California, by her parents. After growing up in the state, she attended the University of Southern California (USC), where she studied fine arts and served as a cheerleader.

“The Bachelor of Fine Arts program that I was majoring in was a conservatory-style, super intense acting program,” she told Her Campus in 2020. “I wanted to take advantage of everything USC had to offer … I participated in student films and took some of the film school’s classes, too.”

Actress and Former Ballet Dancer

Mattfeld began ballet training at age five and later studied under Debbie Allen, appearing in several of her productions. “I was in ballet for a while, then I did community theater and my mom had me take piano and singing lessons,” she told the Golden Globes.

At age 12, she joined Mattel’s American Girl Dolls musical theater troupe, playing Kirsten Larson and Kit Kittredge. As she grew older, she shifted toward acting and producing, appearing in projects such as Wizards of Waverly Place, Shameless, In the Dark, and The Idea of You.

Most recently, she starred opposite Glen Powell in the Hulu original series Chad Powers.

Meeting Mark Sanchez

Mattfeld met Sanchez in 2017 through McKnight while she was filming Shameless and Sanchez was playing for the Chicago Bears.

“Our first date was at Au Cheval in Chicago,” she recalled to Haute Living in 2023. “We hit it off right away, learning we had so much more in common than we could have imagined.”

The couple bonded over their shared Hispanic roots, upbringing in Southern California, and connection to USC. Their relationship remained long-distance for three years until the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We met in 2017 right before I started filming In The Dark, so nearly our entire relationship has been long-distance except for quarantine,” Mattfeld told The Knot. “That year was really the first time we were like, ‘This is it. This is our life.’ ”

Engagement in 2022

Sanchez proposed to Mattfeld in May 2022 at the Belmond Cap Juluca in Anguilla. “Mark personalized everything,” Mattfeld said. “From our initials he put in my ring, to the songs he picked for our private concert. He even had my parents appear out of nowhere!”

The proposal featured a gold throne, white “Love” letters, and dozens of candles.

Wedding in 2023

The couple married on May 28, 2023, at a monastery in Oaxaca, Mexico. McKnight officiated the ceremony, and Sanchez’s son, Daniel, served as both groomsman and ring bearer.

“It was really emotional and special for us,” Mattfeld told PEOPLE.

Their celebration took place at Casa dos Lagos, a private estate and butterfly sanctuary, decorated with butterflies and colorful florals. Mattfeld wore a custom Karen Sabag gown, and the couple shared their first dance to Elvis Presley’s “Can’t Help Falling in Love.”

“Our union is a celebration of our special bond … and a promise to each other and those closest to us to be strong and supportive towards each other,” Sanchez shared.

Parents to Twins

In March 2025, Sanchez and Mattfeld welcomed twins, following their pregnancy announcement in February 2025.

“Biggest surprise yet 🥹 !! #twinmom,” they captioned their joint post.

The couple has kept the names, genders, and birthdates of their twins private. However, Mattfeld told Glamour in September 2025 that they were born in March.

Sanchez also shares his son Daniel from a previous relationship.
