Who is Ruth Codd? All About Celebrity Traitors' Star Turning Heads
Ruth Codd, a 29-year-old Irish actor, has gone from creating viral TikTok videos to starring in major Netflix productions and now stepping into the mysterious world of The Celebrity Traitors. The series, filmed at the stunning Ardross Castle in the Scottish Highlands, features Codd as one of the “Faithful” contestants in its first season.
The Celebrity Traitors is a spin-off of the popular UK reality show The Traitors. The format brings together 19 high-profile contestants divided into two secret groups — the Traitors and the Faithfuls. While the Traitors work together to eliminate the Faithful, the Faithful must identify and vote out the Traitors during intense Round Table discussions. Participants compete for a £100,000 prize for their chosen charities.
Codd, known for her roles in Netflix’s The Midnight Club and The Fall of the House of Usher, and her film debut as Phlegma the Fierce in How to Train Your Dragon, joins the diverse lineup of celebrities in the ultimate game of deception and strategy.
Speaking to the BBC about joining the show, Codd said, “I’m questioning everything now! I’ve never done anything like this before. I watched the show, and I just thought it’d be really good fun.”
Early Life and Career Journey
Before fame, Ruth Codd worked as a professional make-up artist and barber. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she lost her job and began posting comedic nun skits and disability awareness content on TikTok. Within a year, she gained over 672,000 followers and 20.5 million likes. Her TikTok videos caught the attention of Netflix casting directors, who offered her the role of Anya in The Midnight Club.
Born in Wexford, Ireland, Codd spent much of her youth riding horses and playing football. At 15, she suffered a severe foot injury during a football match, which later led to the amputation of her right leg below the knee at age 23 due to chronic pain and nerve damage.
Now using a prosthetic leg, she continues to advocate for disability awareness and representation, sharing her experiences and resilience through social media. After stepping into acting, she deleted her TikTok account and went on to portray Juno in The Fall of the House of Usher.
Her growing career also includes a stint on the British cooking competition Celeb Cooking School in 2024, where she finished in third place.
Ruth’s Strategy and Outlook for The Celebrity Traitors
Discussing her approach to the show, Codd said, “I’m not set on one approach. I chopped off my own leg and taught myself to walk again. So, you know, I’m a very adaptable person, if anything. Being in situations where you have to kind of think quickly, adjust, that doesn’t really phase me so I’m going in with the intention of taking it moment by moment.”
Known for her dark fashion sense and bold humor, Codd added with sarcasm, “Well, that depends who I have to murder. You do what you’ve got to do. The straight white males, they’ve had it easy enough as it is in this industry! I think if I am a Traitor, they would be getting picked off first. Yeah, they’ve had it. They’ve had an easy enough ride. Haha.”
Codd describes herself as competitive but admits she is “not a people person,” suggesting she may need to form alliances to progress in the game. As an avid viewer of The Traitors, fans are eager to see how her sharp wit, style, and personality play out in The Celebrity Traitors.
