British DJ and former BBC Radio 1 host Tim Westwood has been charged with multiple sexual offenses spanning more than thirty years, according to the BBC.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed that the 68-year-old faces four counts of rape and nine counts of indecent assault involving seven women. The alleged incidents occurred between 1982 and 2016. Westwood is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on November 10, 2025.
Born in 1967, Timothy Westwood rose to prominence in the late 1980s and 1990s as one of the most influential figures in British hip-hop. The son of Bill Westwood, a former Anglican Bishop, he began his career on pirate radio before joining the BBC in the early 1990s, where he hosted The Rap Show on Radio 1.
One of the highlights of Westwood’s career was his collaboration with Eminem. He hosted several iconic freestyle sessions with Eminem and the late Proof of D12 and released a previously unreleased 1999 session in 2010. These appearances helped establish Westwood as a major figure in global hip-hop and boosted Eminem’s recognition in the U.K. Westwood has often described Eminem as “a generational voice who resonated deeply with British fans,” emphasizing his continued influence on the U.K. music scene.
Westwood played a major role in promoting hip-hop in the U.K. during a period when the genre was still emerging in the mainstream. After two decades at the BBC, he left in 2013 and joined Capital Xtra, continuing to host radio shows and expand his online presence through Tim Westwood TV, a YouTube channel with over one million subscribers and more than 500 million views.
His reputation began to decline in 2022 following a joint BBC and Guardian investigation that detailed numerous allegations of sexual misconduct. Eighteen women accused him of harassment and unwanted sexual contact between the 1980s and 2010s. All of the women were Black and claimed that Westwood approached them under the guise of offering music industry opportunities.
An independent inquiry led by barrister Gemma White KC, published in early 2024, uncovered further allegations, including inappropriate behavior toward minors. Westwood has denied all wrongdoing, asserting through his lawyers that he has no sexual interest in minors and poses no danger to women.
As the case proceeds, the Crown Prosecution Service has invited the public to share comments to help ensure a fair trial. The allegations against Tim Westwood have significantly impacted the British music industry and sparked broader conversations about accountability and power within the entertainment world.
