Pakistan, Malaysia Strengthen Ties in Trade, Tourism, Defense During PM Visit

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif recently visited Malaysia, where both countries agreed to strengthen cooperation in key areas including trade, investment, defense, and tourism, the Foreign Office spokesperson said during a press briefing.

Delegation-level talks were held between Pakistani and Malaysian officials, focusing on enhancing bilateral ties. One major outcome of the visit was the agreement to import halal meat from Pakistan to Malaysia.

Both sides also emphasized the importance of mutual collaboration on strategic matters and reaffirmed their joint support for the Palestinian cause. Pakistan reiterated its support for Al-Quds Al-Sharif as the capital of Palestine, and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s principled stance on the issue.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also met with U.S. President Donald Trump. During the meeting, Pakistan appreciated President Trump’s role during past Pakistan-India tensions.

Pakistan condemned Israel’s actions in stopping the humanitarian “Sumud Flotilla” and welcomed the release and return of Senator Mushtaq Ahmed, who was briefly detained by Israeli authorities. Pakistan also strongly condemned the desecration of Al-Aqsa Mosque.

On the regional front, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar held a telephonic conversation with the Iranian Foreign Minister, where both sides discussed strengthening bilateral ties and maintaining regional peace. Pakistan and Iran reaffirmed their commitment to deepen cooperation.

Separately, Pakistan and Tajikistan held the sixth round of political consultations in Dushanbe. Both nations agreed to increase cooperation in trade, defense, energy, and education.
