Who is Mitt Romney’s brother? Scott Romney’s wife Carrie Dimas found dead

Carrie Dimas, the wife of Scott Romney—elder brother of former Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney—was found dead in Los Angeles, according to a report. She was 64.

Authorities say Dimas’ body was discovered on the evening of October 10 around 8:30 p.m. on a street adjacent to a parking garage near the Valencia Town Center shopping mall in Los Angeles County. Investigators believe her death resulted from a fall from the multi-level parking structure. However, the Los Angeles County Homicide Bureau has not yet determined whether the fall was accidental or intentional, and the manner of death remains under investigation.

Scott Romney, a Michigan-based attorney, was previously a member of the Michigan State University Board of Trustees from 2001 to 2009. He has also been politically active over the years. In 1998, he ran unsuccessfully for Michigan attorney general, and at one point considered a Senate run, though he ultimately withdrew from consideration, saying, “The timing is not right for me.” During Mitt Romney’s 2012 presidential campaign, Scott played a key role, serving as a Michigan delegate to the Republican National Convention and working as a fundraiser for his brother’s campaign.

Dimas was Scott Romney’s third wife. The two married in 2016. Prior to that, Scott married Ronna in 1967 while attending Harvard Law School; they divorced in 1992. He later married Sheri Jelalian in 2011, and the marriage lasted until 2016.

Scott has frequently spoken about his family and upbringing, particularly his close relationship with his younger brother, Mitt. In an interview with Frontline, he recalled their father George W. Romney—former Michigan governor and automotive executive—sharing a special bond with Mitt.

“Dad loved us all and treated us all with great love. But Mitt was six years younger, a surprise, and Dad had a little bit more time perhaps. And Mitt was so much in love with cars, and my dad was president of a car company, and so they built a little go-cart together, and they did things together. Mitt spent a lot of time listening to him at night, going through his papers and talking about business and so forth. So they had a special relationship, and that continued on…”

Reflecting on Mitt Romney’s capabilities, Scott added, “I think he’s a unique individual. I think everybody in my family has a pretty good intellect, but Mitt has an ability to analyze and see the heart of issues and delve into it perhaps more thoroughly than some. And you see it all the time. He just thinks differently.”

While Scott Romney has never held a public office, his daughter from a previous marriage, Ronna Romney McDaniel, has played a prominent role in Republican politics, having been elected as the chairwoman of the Republican National Committee in 2015.

An investigation into Carrie Dimas’ death is ongoing
