Fact check: Is Hilaria Baldwin suing Dancing with the Stars for $23 million?

17 October, 2025 12:10

Hilaria Baldwin, wife of actor Alec Baldwin, has become the focus of online discussion after a Facebook page titled DWTS Season 34 Fanpage alleged that she intended to sue Dancing with the Stars judges Derek Hough, Carrie Ann Inaba, and Bruno Tonioli.

According to the post, Hilaria allegedly issued a “fiery” statement announcing plans to file a $23 million lawsuit against the three judges, citing “unfair scoring, emotional distress, and deliberate humiliation.” The same page further asserted that following this supposed statement, hashtags #JusticeForHilaria and #DWTSScandal began trending online. It also claimed that neither ABC, the show’s network, nor the Dancing with the Stars producers had commented on the matter.

For context, Hilaria Baldwin was eliminated from the competition on October 7, 2025, during the fourth week of Season 34. Soon after, she appeared on Instagram Live, claiming she had been bullied while participating in the show. She later reiterated her accusations during an interview with US Weekly.

However, the viral Facebook post’s claims have proven to be false. There is no credible or official confirmation that Hilaria issued such a statement or plans to pursue legal action against the judges. While she has spoken out about alleged mistreatment during her time on the show, she has never publicly declared any intention to sue Dancing with the Stars or its panel.

Bobby Bones Responds to Hilaria Baldwin’s Allegations

Season 27 champion Bobby Bones, who won Dancing with the Stars in 2018, addressed Baldwin’s accusations in a TikTok video uploaded on October 13, 2025. Bones stated that while he had read about Baldwin’s comments, he disagreed with her assessment.

The radio and television personality acknowledged that bullying may occur within the show and claimed he personally experienced it. However, he emphasized that such behavior does not influence eliminations. Bones explained that despite facing alleged harassment, he still won because of fan support. According to him, Baldwin’s early exit likely resulted from viewers’ lack of connection with her rather than mistreatment by the judges.

He also remarked that Dancing with the Stars fans can be among “the meanest,” reinforcing that public sentiment often determines contestants’ fate.

Interestingly, days before her Instagram Live session, Baldwin told E! News that winning was not her main objective, adding that her daughter reminded her that doing her best mattered most.
