Was Lucy Martinez Fired? Claim explored as calls to fire teacher mocking Charlie Kirk assassination intensifies

20 October, 2025 16:03

Lucy Martinez, a teacher at Nathan Hale Elementary School in Chicago, has become the center of controversy after a video surfaced allegedly showing her mocking the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk during a “No Kings” protest. The footage quickly went viral, leading to widespread outrage and calls for her termination.

A growing number of social media users, including the Instagram account @safe.campus, have claimed that Martinez has been fired from her position. These claims were amplified by xAI’s chatbot Grok, which cited the same post stating:
“Lucy Martinez, a teacher at Nathan Hale elementary school in Chicago, has been fired after making inappropriate and offensive gestures about the (unaliving) of conservative activist Charlie Kirk at the No Kings protest on October 18, 2025.”

Despite the claims, there has been no official confirmation of Martinez’s dismissal. Neither Nathan Hale Elementary School nor Chicago Public Schools (District 299) has publicly addressed the controversy. At this time, no verifiable evidence has been released to confirm that Martinez was terminated following the backlash.

In response to the public outrage, Nathan Hale Elementary has reportedly taken down its official website and removed its X (formerly Twitter) account. These actions have only fueled speculation and intensified online demands for disciplinary action against the teacher.

The incident gained further traction after an Instagram user, @that84bullnose, posted a Reel from the protest in Chicago. In the video, a woman—later identified as Martinez—appears to make a gesture simulating being shot in the neck while laughing in response to a flag on the user’s vehicle that honored Charlie Kirk. The caption urged viewers to identify her and report the footage to her employer.

Public responses online have been sharp and emotional, with users stating:
“This teacher must be fired.”
“She can’t be around kids! P-E-R-I-O-D…..!!!!!”
“That teacher is not fit to teach children. Celebrating or mocking Charlie Kirk’s murder is reprehensible.”

As of now, the school district has yet to release a statement, and Martinez’s current employment status remains unverified.
