Palestinian Factions Agree on Technocrat Committee to Run Gaza
CAIRO: Major Palestinian factions, including Hamas, have agreed to establish an independent committee of technocrats to administer post-war Gaza, marking a significant step toward rebuilding governance in the region.
According to a joint statement released on the Hamas website, the factions decided to hand over Gaza’s administration to a temporary Palestinian committee composed of independent professionals. The committee will manage essential services and daily affairs in coordination with Arab countries and international institutions.
The statement added that all participating factions pledged to develop a unified position to address the ongoing political and humanitarian challenges facing the Palestinian cause.
Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressed optimism about forming an international peacekeeping force to oversee the ceasefire and stabilization process in Gaza. He noted, however, that Israel’s approval would be crucial regarding the countries contributing to the force, particularly after reports that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu opposed Turkey’s participation.
The proposed international stabilization force, envisioned under the Gaza Peace Plan, aims to provide security, train Palestinian police, and monitor the demilitarization of Gaza to ensure lasting peace and stability in the region.
