Who is Angie Mock? Ex-Fox 2 Broadcaster Claims Self-Defense in Fatal Stabbing of Mother on Halloween
Authorities in Wichita, Kansas, have taken 47-year-old Angelynn “Angie” Mock into custody in connection with the fatal stabbing of her 80-year-old mother, Anita Avers. The Wichita Police Department confirmed the arrest in a press release issued on Friday, October 31, stating that Mock has been booked into the Sedgwick County Jail on charges of first-degree murder.
Mock, once a familiar face on television, previously worked as a news anchor for KTVI Fox 2 in St. Louis, Missouri, between 2011 and 2015. Her professional background also includes stints at KLKN-TV, KAAL-TV (ABC 6), KECI-TV (NBC Montana), and KOKH Fox 25. After leaving KTVI, she shifted to a career in sales, taking positions with CrossChx, TransFirst Merchant Services, and Security Card Services. According to her LinkedIn profile, she has been employed for the past six years as a Data Management Consultant at Imaging Office Systems.
Wichita police officers arrested Mock near a residence located in the area of South Hydraulic and East Crowley. Authorities reported that she sustained visible injuries, while her mother was found wounded inside the home. Local resident Alyssa Castro, who witnessed the aftermath, told KAKE that a blood-covered woman approached her vehicle asking for help.
“There was a woman who approached our vehicle with like blood, like her hands were filled, her body was filled with blood, asking to call 911,” Castro recounted. She said the woman grabbed her boyfriend’s phone and ran back into the house, later adding, “I asked her if she was okay, and she was pretty shaken up and she seemed scared, and she just ran off.” Castro expressed relief that they were able to assist in alerting emergency services.
Authorities later confirmed that Mock told first responders she had stabbed her mother in self-defense. Sedgwick County dispatchers relayed the information to officers at the scene, noting, “Calling party stabbed the mother to save herself.”
Wichita Police Captain Roderick Miller provided additional details during a press briefing, stating that officers were dispatched to the 1500 block of East Crowley Street around 7:52 a.m. “When officers arrived on the scene, they were met in the street with a 48-year-old white female, who had suffered from some cutting… cuts to her hand,” he said. “Officers went inside the residence [and] found an 81-year-old elderly female suffering from multiple stab wounds. Both were transported to local hospitals.”
Captain Miller described the incident as a “domestic type situation inside the residence” and confirmed that the two women were related. Both were initially listed in critical condition, but police later announced that the victim, Anita Avers, had succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at 8:26 a.m. at St. Francis Hospital.
The Wichita Police Department stated that the investigation remains ongoing but emphasized that the event was an isolated domestic matter.
