Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna Demands NASA Release 3I/ATLAS Data Amid Growing Mystery

06 November, 2025 13:33

Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna has called on NASA to release the unreleased data concerning the mysterious object 3I/ATLAS, which is expected to pass by Earth next month. The object, which has raised questions about its nature, has been the subject of widespread speculation, with some even suggesting it could be an alien spaceship.

Luna shared a letter she sent to NASA on November 3, 2025, through her official social media handle, urging the space agency to disclose the information they have gathered on the object. In the letter, Luna noted that NASA had acquired detailed observational data on 3I/ATLAS, along with information on other celestial bodies, including meteors. However, the nature of 3I/ATLAS—whether it is a comet, asteroid, or something else—remains unclear.

Luna stressed the importance of transparency, stating, “This information is of great importance to advancing our understanding of interstellar visions and their interactions with our solar system.” She pointed out that the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter had captured images of the object last month, using the HiRISE camera, which revealed a clearer view of the glow surrounding the mysterious body.

In her letter, Luna also requested NASA to provide data on any unusual activity near Mars when 3I/ATLAS passed within close proximity of the planet on October 3, 2025. Additionally, she urged NASA to fund further observations of the object through the Juno mission, particularly its radio sensors, to gather more insight into its composition and trajectory as it approaches Jupiter.

Luna further called for the release of meteor data, including details of an interstellar meteor that was detected near Papua New Guinea a decade ago. She emphasized that further studies would enhance scientific understanding of 3I/ATLAS and its potential effects on the solar system.

The mystery surrounding 3I/ATLAS has been growing, particularly due to a color change observed in recent days. The object, which was initially green in appearance, reportedly turned blue as it moved away from Earth and passed the far side of the sun, beyond direct sight. The shift in color is believed to be linked to gases like carbon monoxide emanating from the object. Furthermore, its brightness has increased, making it appear even bluer than the sun.

Despite the intrigue, NASA has stated that 3I/ATLAS will pass within 170 million miles of Earth, which is relatively far in astronomical terms. Observations from the R. Naves Observatory in Spain also revealed images of the object, which appeared without the typical comet tail, adding to the enigma surrounding it.

First discovered in July 2025 by a NASA telescope in Chile, 3I/ATLAS is believed to be an interstellar object that originated outside our solar system. Its unusual characteristics and unpredictable behavior have captivated scientists and the public alike.

As Luna presses NASA for more information, experts like Harvard’s Professor Avi Loeb have also weighed in, asserting that releasing the data would benefit the scientific community and prevent further delays in understanding the object’s true nature. With speculation mounting, all eyes remain on NASA and the potential revelations about 3I/ATLAS.
